In 1987 we had a patient who was an IV drug user. He was out in the woods and had no solution to dilute his heroin for an IV injection, so he took some water from a pond to prepare a heroin injection into his left arm. About two days later, he was admitted into the medical/surgical unit for severe inflammation of the left upper extremity. His lymph nodes were huge, and his arm was so swollen, that it looked like the trunk of a tree. It was reddened and covered with blisters, and we could not separate his fingers due to the excruciating pain. (The initial indication was possible sepsis, which is the presence of toxins in the blood.) The doctor told him that if this infection entered into his blood, his heart would get infected and he would die from pump failure. After hearing that, the patient was constantly pressing his nurse-call light to send for us, and all of the nurses on that shift were continually going back and forth to his room. At the end of the shift, everyone, including myself, was happy that the shift was over.
That night I was sound asleep, when God awakened me and brought it to my attention that the patient was afraid of death, which was why he was calling for nurses all through the shift. I got up, put on my clothes, and went to the hospital. As I entered the corridor to the nurses' station, sure enough, I could see that he was still calling for a nurse. I went into his room and told him exactly what God told me. He began to cry and I prayed with him to receive Jesus Christ into his heart. Then I asked God to heal his arm through the name of our Savior Jesus Christ. In two days, that arm was completely healed. Glory be to God! He told the doctor that an evangelist came and prayed for him and God healed him. The doctor replied “He sure did heal you.”
I tell you, my life has been fun working for God. What a wonderful boss He is. Would you like to fill out an application to work for Him?
